OfferUp is looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to help lead our DevOps team. The DevOps team is responsible for building our infrastructure, tools, automation, and processes to maximize developer productivity.  Working closely with other Engineering teams, they standardize and simplify the development platform and tools.  This team owns our cloud infrastructure, routing, and works closely to ensure application and platform security.

In this role, you will lead a high-functioning team of backend engineers. You will foster an engineering culture focused on learning and rapid validation of ideas through experimentation. As an engineering leader, you will support the career growth and development of our engineers. You will also collaborate with our product, product engineering, and data engineering teams to support development and infrastructure.

This role can be in Bellevue, Washington or @Remote in the following states: Washington, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia.

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead the engineering team in achieving a high level of technical quality, reliability, and ease-of-use
  • Own the engineering development platform, tools, and processes for developer productivity
  • Own the overall cloud infrastructure across multiple cloud providers
  • Own, oversee, and delegate the design, architecture, development, testing, deployment, and delivery of large-scale software applications, systems, platforms, services, or technologies.
  • Recruit great engineers in collaboration with OfferUp’s recruiting team
  • Develop engineers on the team, helping them advance in their careers
  • Champion operational excellence, establishing metrics and process for regular assessment and improvement
  • Operate strategically and tactically
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication
  • Oncall for infrastructure-related issues, but not for individual engineering services – this is not an SRE role!

Requirements

  • 7+ years of relevant engineering work experience and 2+ hands-on management experience
  • Exceptional coding abilities and experience with architectural patterns of large, high-scale applications
  • Track record in partnering with recruiting to build incredible engineering teams
  • Actively coached and mentored team members in their careers
  • Been actively involved in setting product strategy
  • Shipped several large-scale projects with multiple dependencies across teams

Helpful, but not required:

  • Experience in managing multiple cloud providers (AWS, GCP)
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Cloudflare, Gloo, GitHub, and Terraform
  • Experience in GitOps toolings like GitHub Actions and ArgoCD
  • Kinesis streams, DynamoDB, Flink, Redis, etc
