About the Role:

The Communications team is responsible for presenting the most relevant content to users and for helping buyers find what they are looking for on OfferUp. We like to think of our charter as being the “Google for OfferUp”. Our team leverages technologies such as ElasticSearch, AWS, Google Cloud and Machine Learning to show the most accurate and relevant content to users and is constantly working to improve search. We manage some of the highest TPS services within OfferUp. We have barely scratched the surface in terms of what we want to do and the potential is infinite.

As a Senior Full Stack Engineer you will be leading features from concept to our apps. Your responsibilities will include everything from design, writing well-architected and thoroughly tested code to implementing out the feature for iOS, Android and Web Apps. You also get to take ownership beyond your technical area by working with cross-functional team members, and mentoring other engineers.

Here’s more of what you will do:

  • Be one of our first engineers in Mexico and join a mature startup.
  • Continuously discover, evaluate, and implement new technologies/best practices to maximize development efficiency.
  • Optimize the performance and scalability of the OfferUp infrastructure as the service continues to grow.
  • Help maintain code quality, organization, and automation.
  • Provide mentorship and technical direction to team members on a day to day basis.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams (UX and Product Management) to design and implement new features.


  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience including backend and frontend development: Web, iOS, or Android
  • Strong coding skills in Java, .NET, Scala JavaScript, TypeScript, or other modern programming languages
  • Excellent knowledge of Data Structures and Algorithms
  • Experience working on client applications using Reach and React Native
  • Experience with Agile development
  • Above all, you thrive in a culture that values collaboration, mentorship, and learning
  • BS or MS in Computer Science or related discipline
  • Excellent communication skills both written and spoken (fluency in English required)

Helpful, but not required: 

  • Prior proven experience of being a technical lead and/or scrum master.
  • Knowledge in web and app optimization performance, and design patterns e.g. responsive design vs optimized design
  • Experience developing cross-platform apps and cross-browser websites
  • Experience with GraphQL and Apollo
  • Experience with web servers like NodeJS, NextJS, Express, and web package managers
  • Experience with Elasticsearch
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, CloudFlare)
  • SEO experience is a plus
  • Github repo with your own code we can view
